C.A.R.E. PROGRAM

The Millis Police Department is implementing the Children and Resident Encounter program (C.A.R.E.), which is a program that is based on other law enforcement programs to assist police officers in responding to emergencies where the individual has been diagnosed with a mental or physical disability. To aid first responders in providing emergency care to individuals who have been diagnosed with a mental or physical disability. The Millis Police has created a registry for individuals with Autism or other mental or physical disabilities to give police and other first responders access to critical information in the event of an emergency. The C.A.R.E will provide first responders with emergency contact information, detailed physical descriptions, known routines, medications, favorite attractions, or special needs of an individual. This information can be critical for individuals with a mental or physical disability. The information provided can greatly assist first responders when time is essential in communicating and encountering emergencies involving a person with a mental or physical disability. The registration form asks for invaluable information that first responders will need when helping individuals with a disability. We ask that all questions be filled out completely and that a current photograph be provided. We can take one for you if you cannot supply a photograph. The information you provide is confidential and will only be used by first responders. Please let us know as soon as possible if you need any information on the registration changes.

Residents who could benefit from this program include but are not limited to,
• Individuals with Down Syndrome.
• Individuals with Alzheimer’s Disease.
• Individuals with limited mobility.
• Individuals who are non-verbal.
